Manufacturing Process Lead, Senior Engineer
- At Ball Aerospace’s Westminster Colorado location, we develop and manufacture state of the art RF & sensor technologies that are integrated onto tactical missile and aircraft platforms. If you’d like to join our rapidly growing operational team in a mission to help the warfighter, this could be an ideal role for you. This is a very influential role that supports a high mix / low volume development process value stream within the Aerospace Manufacturing Center (AMC). This position reports to the Development Operations Value Stream Manager and oversees shared processes/resources used by most AMC tactical product development programs. To be successful in this role, applicants should have practical experience working with manufacturing processes; Lean Manufacturing principles; and leading operational teams in a fast paced, high energy environment.
What you’ll do:
Work with the development product value stream leadership to provide outstanding customer service and shared resource capabilities
Assume process engineering expertise for capabilities that include autoclave bonding, chemical etch, prototype printed circuit board fabrication, paint, and machining processes
Develop and manage a localized strategy / plan to effectively connect our operational strategy with internal customer needs
Lead and coach the shared resource manufacturing team
Continuously improve and increase process velocity through the application of Lean methods, tools, and principles, utilizing PDCA cycles to convert current conditions to target conditions
Identify process obstacles and drive countermeasures that improve flow
Maintain a strong focus on human and hardware safety
Effectively lead a staff of approximately 15 team members (technicians and machinists) and work collaboratively with other support disciplines (quality engineering, test engineering, M&P, etc.)
Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Industrial engineering to leverage capabilities and manage operational capacity
Establish and maintain process effectiveness metrics to understand process health while providing baselines for continuous improvement efforts
Utilize an internal Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system to manage equipment and asset risk
Manage customer demand and workflows using appropriate Lean techniques (Heijunka, Kanban, ect.)
Effectively utilize, create and implement standard operating procedures where necessary
What you’ll need:
BS degree in engineering, plus 8 or more years of related experience
Experience developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, establishing a deep understanding of their environment, and generating a clear understanding of the challenges they face
A general understanding of Lean Manufacturing
A creative approach to problem solving and an appetite for experimentation
Strong presentation skills
A strong focus on the horizontal flow of value across several supporting organizations
The ability to clearly define and convey purpose for all team members supporting the value stream
Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects and/or teams
Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, recognition of individuals strengths and areas for improvement, and an ability to manage misalignment between individuals and/or groups
In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level should be considered. Each higher-level degree, i.e. master’s degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
