Sr. Unix Systems Administrator

What you’ll do:

  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service.

  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.

  • Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all environments.

  • Fault finding, analysis and of logging information for reporting of performance exceptions.

  • Proactively monitoring system performance and capacity planning.

  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers in production and dev/test environments.

  • Create and modify scripts to perform tasks required by active processes.

  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.

  • Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

  • Maintain and configure best security practices including resolving security issues identified by the Enterprise Security Team.

  • Support and actively participate in SOX audit activities throughout the year.

  • Maintain Linux servers hosting Oracle database instances supporting pillar business applications.

  • Support production operations with on-call rotations (1 week at a time).

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you'll need:

  • BS in Information Technology or a related technical field plus 8 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance.

  • Additional Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) will be considered an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to achieve the desired outcome in a positive and constructive manner.

  • In-depth knowledge of Linux: RedHat, CentOS and Oracle Enterprise Linux.

  • Hands on experience with Oracle Databases – (Nice to have).

  • Familiarity with VMWare vSphere clusters and SAN management and concepts.

  • Expert in Shell scripting (BASH).

  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as NFS, CIFS, UDP/TCP, NTP, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP.

  • Experience with managing server networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, firewalls).

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to efficiently diagnose an issue, as well as propose and implement a solution.

  • Ability to draft and formalize technical documentation.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Experience with Splunk or common syslog server for audit logging.

  • Knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, and application monitoring such as SolarWinds and Grid Control.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills to technical stakeholders.

  • Solid track record to deliver, also when under pressure.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Security Clearance:

Successful applicant for this position must be eligible to obtain a DoD clearance or government customer access to classified/sensitive material. A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however the successful applicant will be required to obtain a DoD clearance or government customer access within a reasonable time after the offer is extended and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance. *US Citizenship is Required.
