Job Duties:

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Leader, Lean Six Sigma, is a facilitative leader accountable for managing activities associated with the design, implementation and sustainment of Lean Management Methodology and collaborative, fact-based problem solving for the assigned production plant. The position oversees Lean Six Sigma Transformation within Ball’s largest most complex plants, including deployment strategy, planning, training, coaching, project management, people development and resource development.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitates change and supports deployment, adoption and sustainment of Lean thinking and a Lean-based Management System within assigned plant

  • Teaches and coaches Lean leadership philosophy and behaviors including servant leadership, A3 thinking, Lean daily management structure and the use of visual control boards or other visual management

  • Teaches and coaches basic problem solving (PDCA) and root cause analysis, including support for injury risk reduction

  • Teaches, facilitates, coaches and ensures adherence to established standards for value stream mapping/analysis, kaizen improvement (workshops and daily kaizen) and 5S (workshops, daily improvement and sustainment)

  • Guides project leads through Six Sigma (DMAIC) phases and associated activities; co-leads and manages plant-wide improvement initiatives and participates in problem solving

  • Teaches and coaches standardized work development, documentation, training, adherence, improvement and management

  • Initiates change to improvement methods and processes, representing the highest level of Lean expertise available; makes decisions about the design of value stream analyses, Kaizen workshops and resolution of intra-plant barriers to Lean learning

  • Required to present, educate and facilitate at all levels within the plant and to external audiences

  • Supports day-to-day operation of the BPNCA Lean Six Sigma department and performs other duties, responsibilities and/or projects as assigned

  • Makes revisions and improvements to training materials and supporting tools as needed to support lean management structure at larger/more complex production plant.

  • Assists plant manager with development and execution of lean six sigma adoption and deployment strategy; provides guidance to plant leadership team on potential risk versus reward for changes affecting plant performance and culture.

  • Drives adoption and sharing of best practices to support BPNCA-wide improvement efforts

Position Requirements:

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through bachelor’s degree

  • Job related experience for a minimum of 5 year(s)

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training (certification or credential strongly desired)

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with deployment and adoption of Lean management methods

  • Comprehensive understanding of Six Sigma quality tools/methods

  • Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills and ability to influence without formal authority

  • Excellent communication, presentation, conflict resolution and facilitation skills are required along with the ability to provide a high degree of customer sensitivity and attention to detail

  • Must be able to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects, organize and follow through consistently and work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency in using widely recognized Lean Six Sigma and/or other problem solving and statistical analysis packages

  • 20% of travel
