Qualifications:

Sr. Cloud Architect and Engineer

This position is key to defining and implementing key fundamental cloud strategies, architectures and processes for a wide variety of important business use cases. This position will have the full support of a team of architects and technical professionals in the realms of security, enterprise architecture, database, network and applications as you define and guide creation of new cloud architectures. You’ll collaborate closely with our business representatives to understand vision, desires, and requirements. You’ll research, define, plan, and implement foundational hybrid cloud capabilities to quickly build pilot cloud systems with select business units, and measured expansion across the enterprise. This position is a founding member of a larger cloud team and thus will initially work independently on technical, documentation, and implementation tasks, and coordinate with business and IT teams on requirements, designs, roadmaps, capabilities, and architecture. High-level strategic thinking is a must, and you must also have the hands-on abilities to build it out.

What you’ll do:

  • Solve business challenges via translating business needs to IT requirements, and leading project architectural design efforts to create efficient, standardized, yet creative and innovative solutions.
  • Ensure governance oversight via assessment of business requirements, solution alternatives, designs, and standards compliance through project design reviews.
  • In coordination with Enterprise Application, Infrastructure, Security, and Data Architects, lead the creation of a 3-5 year enterprise cloud vision and strategy (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to support the key business processes and requirements.
  • Guide execution of the cloud vision by providing technical expertise/guidance in cloud technologies.
  • Research, analyze, determine information capabilities and propose technology solution alternatives that address specific business needs and product/service strategies.
  • Provide input to cloud vision and strategy (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to support the key business processes and requirements.
  • Ensure security needs are met via understanding security capabilities and regulatory adherence of cloud providers, and the security needs and regulatory requirements for various applications and infrastructure components.
  • Research, analyze, determine information capabilities and propose technology solution alternatives that address specific business needs and product/service strategies.
  • Influence the design and implementation of solutions, identifying needed resources and developing timelines, effectively communicating risks, issues and alternative options.
  • Cloud Administration of Microsoft Azure and AWS. Scripting environment and VM creation, virtual machines, storage accounts, resource groups.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor and deploy SaaS, PaaS and custom applications in concert with System Administrators, DBA’s and other technical personnel.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical consulting, solution architect, or systems engineering role.
  • 5+ years of experience with building enterprise-scale architecture solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud IaaS environments including both AWS and Azure.
  • Experience and understanding of SaaS architectural, security, performance, application integration considerations and architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well as ability to think clearly & analyze quantitatively.
  • Detail oriented, and ability to meet, and exceed, quality standards.
  • Manage and execute projects with a strong bias for action; ability to effectively prioritize projects and meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to juggle many tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment and must be a self-starter who is excited and curious about technology.
  • Experience translating on-premise business process into cloud solutions.
  • Nice-to-have requirements:
  • Prior experience working in Government Community Cloud(s), including knowledge of ITAR, DFARS, and other government information and computing requirements.
  • Working knowledge of VMware, VSphere, VRealize and scripting infrastructure via code.
  • Cloud certification(s).
  • Experience with enterprise-class hybrid multi-cloud computing architectures.
  • Hands-on Powershell scripting for cloud automation.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
