Ball Aerospace is a prime contractor leading development teams at AFRL and NASIC. Dayton personnel develop advanced hardware and software systems and provide management services to solve customer problems and create new capabilities. This includes designing and developing software tools and threat models, performing extensive data analyses, and executing modeling and simulations using both internally developed and standard models.

Qualifications:

Senior Engineer – Advanced Avionics Cyber Software (666633)

In this position, you will work with our avionics architecture development team to develop a revolutionary new architecture for avionics. We are looking for engineers with embedded/low level development experience, preferably in avionics, to join our team and make a significant impact to the future of avionics cyber security.

What You’ll Do:

  • Participate in developing a revolutionary new architecture for avionics.

  • Design leading edge cyber concepts for avionics communication and management.

  • Develop avionics cyber software for new advanced applications.

  • Work with a world class software and hardware team on changing the nature of avionics.

  • Work with customer and team members to establish project requirements and scope

  • Provide leadership and guidance as needed on assigned tasks

  • Perform full software life cycle functions including software requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration and documentation.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units/Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties, as necessary.

What You’ll Need:

  • BS in Computer Engineering or a related technical field is strongly preferred plus 8 or more years’ related experience.

  • Successful applicant must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active security clearance

  • Top consideration given to candidates with experience designing, developing, integrating, and testing avionics systems, including knowledge of avionics cyber assessment and mitigation. Candidates with experience designing, developing, integrating, and testing embedded/real-time software will also be considered.

  • Significant high-performance computing (HPC) experience using MPI or similar frameworks

  • Experience developing high-speed networking or storage software

  • Experience programming GPUs using OpenCL, CUDA, etc.

  • Experience interfacing with FPGAs (as accelerators)

  • PCIe driver development

  • Experience programming in C/C++, ADA, and/or other high-level languages.

  • Experience developing boot loaders, device drivers, board support packages, kernel level development, etc

  • Knowledge of assembly language on processors, preferably ARM, PowerPC, or x86.

  • Experience with real-time operating systems including Linux, Green Hills Integrity, VxWorks, LynxOS, or other RTOS.

  • Experience with virtualization (Type 1 – and Type 2 Hypervisors) a plus

  • Familiarity with DO-178B and/or ARINC 653

  • Experience using tools such as IDAPro and disassemblers.

  • Experience with formal software development processes

  • Excellent communication, presentation and team skills.

  • In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and to exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level will be considered. Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Occasional out of state travel and local commute between Ball and customer facilities will be required
