Senior Engineering Manager – Mission Systems Integration, Verification and Validation
This position is responsible for the Leadership, strategic alignment, and management of the Integration, Validation, and Test (IVT) Department. It is a key department within the Missions and Systems Engineering organization and reports directly to the Director of Missions and Systems Engineering. The IVT Department is responsible for people, processes, tools, and support for the day-to-day execution on programs.
What you'll do:
Lead the Systems IVT function with a high degree of technical capability and leadership competence. The disciplines that make us this department are:
System Integration and Test (SI&T)
Special Test Equipment (STE)
Provide vision and thought leadership to develop Ball Aerospace's Systems IVT competency.
Create and implement a vision for IVT’s contribution around the Systems Engineering “V” - help us ensure SEIT is a strength.
Grow strategic simulators capability extending to spacecraft, payloads, and missions; chart our future state for high fidelity test environments – ultimately allowing verification and validation of requirements in lieu of using the flight asset.
Manage program system-level System Test Equipment (STE) capital requests, representing Missions and Systems at the weekly Capital Board – maximize Ball’s return on invested capital
Grow the Mission Integration area (people, process and tools)
Manage employee hiring selection process, assign appropriate staff to programs, conduct performance assessments and personnel actions, support recognition programs, and ensure the department has the appropriate processes in place to meet needs of programs and compliance with approved standards.
Develop and improve integration, validation, and test methods and products to be aligned with strategic needs of the business.
Proactively engage programs to prevent/address issues.
Ensure detailed planning for IVT efforts align with program requirements
Ensure engineers are appropriately trained to meet needs of programs as well as employee career goals.
Develop a succession plan for self + leadership roles within the organization.
Communicate relevant higher-level information to department personnel.
Manage responsibilities through delegation to lower level Leads.
Manage and optimize department budget.
Provide part-time, direct support to programs or new business activities on an as needed basis.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What you'll need:
BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field is required, plus 15 or more years of related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Experience working at a Management level with a highly skilled, senior group of Engineers.
Leadership experience creating and implementing vision and strategies to perform at optimal levels.
Relevant work experience and technical understanding of system integration and test, simulators, and special test equipment (STE) is highly desired.
Current TS/SCI security clearance required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Working knowledge of systems engineering best practices.
Demonstrated competence in the following areas: Organizational Agility, Strategic Agility, Decision Quality, Developing Direct Reports & Others, Conflict Management, Managerial Courage, Hiring & Staffing, and Motivating Others.
Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, clean room, or production floor.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Successful candidate will have completed a government national security clearance investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. *U.S. Citizenship is Required.
