Qualifications:

Payload Engineering Staff Consultant

Support multiple Strategic Business Units (SBUs) focused on execution of existing contracts and growing Ball’s business. Targeted SBU customers include Civil Space, National Defense, Commercial Space and Technologies, Systems Engineering Solutions and Tactical Solutions. Must have significant skills, knowledge, and experience with these customers. Business opportunities of interest range from spaceflight hardware development, ground infrastructure, engineering support services and new business pursuits. This position reports to the Chief Architect of Payload Engineering.

What You'll Do:

  • Conceive and develop compelling payload and instrument architecture concepts leveraging Ball technology developments and previous flight heritage.

  • Work closely and assist in coordination of Payload Engineering Optics, Detectors, and Cryogenics for existing and strategic payload architectures.

  • Work closely with Technology and IP to identify, define, and foster IRAD projects that support SBUs and the RS&E strategic plan.

  • Strategize, plan, develop and execute IRAD projects to capture the resulting business while providing cutting edge technologies to position the SBU’s for future business.

  • Assist in generating and managing payload engineering knowledge and information as part of the Payload Chief Architect charter.

  • Provide responsive technical development support to SBU’s, in support of Ball prime and subcontract execution as well as supply chain activities.

  • Support Business Development and Advanced Systems Managers to ensure alignment around strategic pursuits/captures and provide necessary technical staffing to these efforts and to proposal efforts.

  • Formulate strategies and participate in strategy discussions with Strategic Business Units on existing and new business, analyze and present information on new opportunities, competitive assessments and trends in the space markets.

  • Support proposal writing, technical presentations, strategy, win themes, key points, and pricing. Support proposal color team as a reviewer.

  • Foster innovative design approaches and rapid prototyping within company procedures and policies.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:

  • BS Degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 16 or more years of related experience.

  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e. Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • Security Clearance: Existing Government Top Secret clearance preferred or the ability to obtain.

  • Strong technical skills and demonstrated ability to support/interface with new business managers.

  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments. Influencing, communication and team skills will be critical to successful execution of the duties of the position.

  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of operational level strategies behind emerging technologies is strongly preferred.

  • Strong programmatic background within classified program environments for government or industry is a strong plus.

  • Strong programmatic background with government or industry desirable.

  • Knowledge of relevant government acquisition strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading design teams and new business capture activities.

  • Must be a superb presenter with documented presentation experience to senior decision making and technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead proposals including strong technical writing skills.

  • Must have demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments.

  • Influencing, communication and team skills will be critical to successful execution of the duties of the position.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Periodic travel to Ball Colorado locations (Boulder, Broomfield, Westminster) and Washington D.C. office expected 25%.
