Engineer I – Manufacturing
What you’ll do:
Define, monitor and improve process performance and efficiency to achieve development and production tasks. Work collaboratively with technical and operational team to create, monitor and improve the work centers’ performance and efficiency.
Develop data-based business cases for projects, and lead/help execute those selected through implementation
Work with team to implement Statistical Process Control for work areas in the Manufacturing Operations work centers. Work with team to define Key Performance Characteristics, track and communicate process control. Develop and implement reaction plans to address special cause variation.
Participate in demand analysis and capacity planning to drive efficiency improvements and capacity expansions to meet forecasted business needs.
Help further develop and improve Total Productive Maintenance plan, reduce unplanned downtime, and manage to and report TPM performance metrics.
Actively participate in continuous improvement projects; develop solutions to risks and opportunities identified in work centers, embrace and promote use of Lean and 6-Sigma tools / techniques.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and other documents for each work center to ensure best operational practices. Develop guidelines to help improve quality of information delivered to the shops, increase our efficiencies, and partner with other organizations to improve levels of engagement.
Work with Process Control and Materials and Process Engineering to investigate new tools, equipment and advanced manufacturing techniques to lead the operations into the future. Develop cost benefits required to implement new or existing technology upgrades. Understand and execute risk and opportunity analysis and action plans.
Support continuous improvement activities including 6S, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, and the implementation of single piece flow.
Apply professionally accepted manufacturing / industrial engineering techniques, practices and procedures to our environment.
Work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective and efficient processes.
Demonstrate the ability to organize information, tasks and time for most efficient and "best value" performance. Organize, analyze, write and present technical data and/or proposal information for internal design gated reviews, program managers and external customers. Develop and refine business systems; understand existing business systems) and work to continuously improve those systems.
Identify and implement ways to automate data collection and analysis.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What you’ll need
BS/BA degree or higher in Engineering or a related field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Low volume / high mix manufacturing experience is desired.
Experience with the implementation of Lean initiatives.
Proficient with MS Suite and Excel; experience with AutoCAD and SolidWork is a plus
Experience performing capacity demand analysis.
Project management skills.
Lead teams through projects.
Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as a team player.
Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
