Contracts Specialist

As a Contracts Specialist within the Civil Space contracts department, you will assume an individual contributor role providing contract administration functions in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications.

What You'll Do

  • As an individual contributor provide contract negotiation and administration on the most complex and/or critical programs encompassing all phases of the contract life cycle (pre-proposal through contract closeout).

  • Responsible for collaborating with others in the department and on program teams, and for establishing effective relationships with key US Government and Prime customers.

  • Prepare presentations for program and customer management review.

  • Collaborate with other employees in the department, cross-functionally and with program personnel, and key customers.

  • Review and interpret contracts, modifications and change orders; prepare contract review records and obtain necessary management approvals.

  • Review Requests for Proposals, contracts and related documents to assess risks to the company and recommend mitigation approaches and ensure compliance with various federal regulations and Ball Aerospace policy.

  • Conduct contractual presentations for internal management.

  • Advise and consult to resolve business/contractual problems with program management, internal organizations, or customer representatives.

  • Conceive and develop solutions to contract acquisition life cycle issues through the application of professionally accepted business, contract techniques, practices and procedures.

  • Propose and negotiate terms and conditions that mitigate business risks, ensuring company empowered official is aware of any Domestic Export (ITAR and EAR) issues.

  • Negotiate favorable payment terms to affect shareholder value.

  • Lead and direct negotiations and recommend and implement negotiation strategies and techniques.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule in accordance with company policy.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the SBU/SSU and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need

  • BS/BA in a related field plus 8 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • US Government contracts experience.

  • Business related Master’s is desirable.

  • CPCM certification desirable.

  • Experience with Cost Reimbursable- Award Fee and Incentive Fee contracts.

  • Experience with Firm Fixed Price contracts.

  • Experience with Other Transaction Authority (OTA) Agreements desirable.

  • Experience with NASA, NOAA, DoD and major aerospace primes preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills, computer fluency, agile and effective negotiator with clear oral and written explanations.

  • Ability to work a variety of complex issues concurrently.

  • Experience in developing and implementing negotiation strategies.

  • Strong conflict resolution skills in a changing environment.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
